Our inspiring new buzz phrase is a play on quirky Architect Louis Kahn’s famous advice that he used to give his students. Often he would tell them “if you are ever stuck for inspiration, ask your materials for advice”
“You say to a brick, ‘What do you want, brick?’ And brick says to you, ‘I like an arch.’ And you say to brick, ‘Look, I want one, too, but arches are expensive and I can use a concrete lintel.’ And then you say: ‘What do you think of that, brick?’ Brick says: ‘I like an arch. And it’s important, you see, that you honor the material that you use. [..] You can only do it if you honor the brick and glorify the brick instead of shortchanging it.”
Our Version – Boss was stuck for inspiration – so he approaches his lead Architect, and he learns a valuable life lesson.
“Boss say to Architect, ‘I need your help, What do you want, Architect?’ And Architect says to boss, ‘I like a vacation.’ And boss say to Architect, ‘Look, I want one, too, but vacations are expensive and I can use a long weekend.’ And then boss say: ‘What do you think of that, Architect?’ Architect says: ‘I like a Vacation.’ So the boss does some thinking – it’s important, you see, that you honor the people that you use. Boss can only do it if boss honors the Architect and glorifies the Architect instead of shortchanging it. Boss says ‘How much time would you like?”’

And you know what that is. A Blueprint is a Plan. Blueprint your next vacation!” Because what we blueprint we build! Travel Like an Architect™ Be Brave, take the first step, ask the boss for time off. Because you will be re-charged with creativity upon your return, and boss will be grateful for that…..
Wisdom for Architects
If you are an Architect, in the United States, travel is tax deductible as “continuing education”! Architects can go anywhere in the world to study Architecture and soak up inspiration. They can deduct the full cost of the trip as a Business Expense.
The educational benefit is threefold.
Travel exposes you to unique styles and techniques throughout the world, because seeing is understanding for visual people like architects.
Travel teaches you about how culture effects the design – where tradition is different, so is the Architecture – because it needs to be.
Travel allows you to relax and recharge your creativity to enhance your performance and your career. There’s nothing better than cruising. Ask us how we know….. We even got a call, and landed a new project while on a cruise ship off the coast of Peru!
